Terms & conditions

Last updated 2 November 2026

The short version

  • The free check is free. A full report is delivered on screen straight after you pay, with a link by email.
  • Launch offer, on top of your legal rights: if a report doesn’t help you, use “Not helpful?” at the bottom of it within 7 days to ask for a free full report on another car, one per customer.
  • Because a report is delivered straight away, the legal 14-day right to cancel ends once it’s delivered. You agree to this at checkout. The “Not helpful?” offer is separate and still applies.
  • If we can’t complete your report, we refund you in full. You can also get a refund for reports you haven’t used yet.
  • Reports show records held by public bodies and licensed data providers at the time of the check. We don’t guarantee them, and we don’t offer a data guarantee or insurance. Always inspect the car and its logbook too.
  • Reports are for your own use. You can share one with the seller or buyers of that car, including with a shared link on the car’s advert, but you can’t resell them.
  • Your legal rights as a consumer aren’t affected.

The full terms below are what apply.

1. About these terms

AUTO373 is a trading name. In these terms “we”, “us” and “our” mean AUTO373, and “you” means the person using our website or buying a report.

These terms apply when you use auto373.co.uk, run a free check, create an account or buy a report. Please read them with our privacy policy, which explains how we use personal information.

You can contact us at support@auto373.co.uk. If we need to contact you, we’ll use the email address you gave us.

If you’re buying as a consumer, nothing in these terms affects your legal rights. If you’re buying for a business, section 13 also applies.

2. What we provide

The free check

The free check shows a vehicle’s MOT history and recorded mileage, road tax status, an estimate of whether it meets clean air zone rules such as London’s ULEZ, safety recall information and, where we can match the model, its typical specification. It’s free and you don’t need an account. You can ask us to email the free check to you; we send only that email and don’t add you to a mailing list.

A clean air zone result is our estimate from the vehicle’s recorded fuel type and emissions standard. Zones set their own rules, so check with the zone operator before relying on it. The typical specification describes similar vehicles of the same model, not the exact vehicle.

The full report

A full report includes everything in the free check, plus history checks such as outstanding finance, insurance write-offs, stolen vehicle records, salvage auctions, previous keepers and plate and colour changes. What appears depends on the records held for the vehicle at the time of the check.

Who and what it’s for

  • We check vehicles registered in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), not the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man.
  • You must be 18 or over to buy a report.
  • We don’t offer a data guarantee, warranty or insurance against losses from buying a vehicle.

3. Where the information comes from

The free check uses official records, including the DVSA’s MOT history and the DVLA’s vehicle details. The typical specification comes from published vehicle register data for similar vehicles. Full report checks come from licensed data providers covering records such as police, insurance and finance records.

We take reasonable care when we collect and present these records, but we don’t create them and can’t change them. Records can be delayed, incomplete or wrong at their source. A report is a snapshot of what was held when you ran it; records can change afterwards.

A report is information to help you decide, not advice. Before you buy a vehicle, also inspect it, check that the logbook (V5C) and the vehicle identification number (VIN) match the car, ask the seller about anything in the report, and consider a professional inspection.

If you think a record is wrong, tell us at support@auto373.co.uk. We’ll pass it to the organisation that holds the record and let you know what we can do.

4. Buying a full report

  • Prices are shown before you pay, in pounds sterling, and include VAT where it applies.
  • You can pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Payments are processed by our payment provider; we never see or store your full card details.
  • When you press pay, you’re offering to buy the report. The contract starts when your payment is confirmed and we deliver the report. If we can’t provide a report, we won’t take payment, or we’ll refund it in full.
  • The report opens on screen straight after payment, and we email you a link to it with your confirmation.

5. Cancelling and refunds

Our “Not helpful?” launch offer

This is an extra, on top of your legal rights. The law doesn’t require it: we offer it out of goodwill, because we’re confident in our reports. If a full report doesn’t help you, you can have a full report on another car for free.

  • Ask within 7 days of buying the report, or of running it if it’s from a 3-car pack, using “Not helpful?” at the bottom of it.
  • Tell us in a sentence why the report didn’t help. We won’t argue: we use the answers to make reports better.
  • It’s one free report per customer, including for a pack: one in all, not one for each pack report. We check this by the email address and the card you paid with.
  • It covers reports you paid for on their own and reports from a 3-car pack. Free reports aren’t covered, including one from this offer.
  • We only refuse in clear cases of abuse, such as asking again and again.

The offer applies to reports bought while it runs. If we ever end it, we’ll say so here first, and reports you’ve already bought keep it. It doesn’t change your refunds for a report we couldn’t complete, unused reports or a faulty report, described below.

Your right to cancel

If you buy online you normally have 14 days to cancel. A full report is digital content that we deliver straight away, so at checkout we ask you to agree to immediate delivery and to accept that you lose this right to cancel once the report is delivered. We confirm this in your confirmation email. This is separate from our “Not helpful?” offer, which still applies.

Before you pay, the checkout shows the make and model for the registration you entered. Please make sure it’s the car you mean: a report delivered for the registration you entered counts as delivered.

Reports we couldn’t complete

If we can’t complete your report, we’ll refund you in full or, if you prefer, run the report again once the problem is fixed. This covers, for example, when:

  • our data providers hold no record of the vehicle;
  • one or more of the history checks doesn’t return a result;
  • an error on our side means the report is missing, incomplete or for the wrong vehicle.

A check that completes and finds nothing to report, such as no outstanding finance, is a result, not missing data.

Unused reports

If you’ve paid for a report that hasn’t been used yet, for example the remaining reports in a pack, you can ask for a refund for each unused report at any time before it expires. Unused reports expire 12 months after purchase. Where reports were bought at a pack discount, the refund is the price you paid per report.

Faulty reports and your legal rights

By law, digital content must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality. If a report isn’t, you can ask us to fix or replace it, and in some cases to reduce the price or refund you. Nothing in these terms limits those rights. For more on your rights, contact Citizens Advice.

How to ask for a refund

For the “Not helpful?” offer, open your report and use “Not helpful?” at the bottom, telling us in a sentence why it didn’t help. Your report link is in the email we sent when it was ready.

For anything else, or if you can’t open your report, email support@auto373.co.uk with the registration, the date you bought the report and the email address you used. We’ll reply within 5 working days. Refunds go back to your original payment method within 14 days of us confirming them. Once a report is refunded, it no longer opens, including through links you’ve shared.

6. Refer a friend

  • Anyone with a free account can share their referral link. A friend who buys a full report with it gets £1 off.
  • When that friend is a new customer (their email, card and account haven’t bought from us before) and isn’t you, you earn one free full report. You can use it on any car from 30 days after their purchase, as long as it isn’t refunded.
  • Up to 3 free reports per account. They can’t be exchanged for cash or passed to someone else, and the friend’s £1 off doesn’t combine with other offers.
  • We may refuse rewards in clear cases of abuse. If we end the scheme, free reports you’ve already earned stay yours.

7. Buying and accounts

  • You only need your email address to buy: we send your report there. An account is optional, and you can create one after buying.
  • A free account is created with your email address. You sign in with a link we email you, or with Google or Apple; there’s no password. Keep access to your email account secure, because anyone who can read your email can sign in.
  • One account per person. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account.
  • If you bought without signing in, signing in later with the same email address adds those reports to your account.
  • We keep your reports with no time limit, so you can reopen them whenever you need: in your account, or through the link in your email (if the link has expired, we’ll send a new one to the same address). If we ever stop providing the service, we’ll tell you in advance so you can save them.
  • You can close your account at any time by emailing support@auto373.co.uk. If you have unused reports, ask for a refund before you close it.

8. Using reports

Reports are for your own use in deciding whether to buy, sell or keep a vehicle. You may give an unaltered copy, free of charge, to the seller or prospective buyers of that vehicle.

You can also make a shared link from your report. Anyone with it can view the report, with the date it was run, for 12 months, so you can send it to someone or put it on the vehicle’s advert. You can stop sharing at any time, and every shared link then stops working.

You must not:

  • sell or license reports, or publish them or their contents other than through a shared link for that vehicle;
  • use reports for a business without our written agreement (see section 13);
  • build a database or service from our reports or website;
  • use reports to identify or contact previous keepers or anyone else;
  • use reports for anything unlawful.

9. Using our website fairly

You must not:

  • use bots, scripts or other automated means to run checks or copy content, unless we’ve agreed in writing;
  • try to get around security, access accounts that aren’t yours, or overload or disrupt the website;
  • use someone else’s payment details without permission;
  • give us false information.

If you do, we may block access or suspend or close your account. We’ll tell you why unless the law or the police stop us. We may also report suspected fraud.

We work to keep the website available but can’t promise it will always be, and we may change or pause parts of it, for example for maintenance.

10. Our responsibility to you

If you’re a consumer, we’re responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or not using reasonable care and skill. Loss is foreseeable if it was obvious it would happen, or if we both knew it might happen when the contract was made. We aren’t responsible for loss or damage that isn’t foreseeable.

Records are created and held by public bodies and data providers. If a record was wrong or missing at its source and we handled it with reasonable care, we aren’t responsible for loss that results from it.

Apart from the cases below, our total responsibility for a report is limited to the price you paid for that report.

We don’t limit our responsibility for:

  • death or personal injury caused by our negligence;
  • fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
  • damage to your device or other digital content caused by faulty digital content from us, where we didn’t use reasonable care and skill (we’ll repair the damage or pay you fair compensation);
  • your legal rights as a consumer, or anything else the law doesn’t let us limit.

11. Our content

The website, its design and the format of our reports belong to us or the organisations we license them from. You may view, download and print reports for the uses allowed in section 7. Everything else needs our written permission.

12. Your personal information

Our privacy policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and your rights. We may share information with the police or fraud prevention agencies where the law requires or allows it, for example to prevent fraud or vehicle crime.

13. Problems and complaints

If something goes wrong, email support@auto373.co.uk. We’ll reply within 5 working days and try to put it right.

If we can’t resolve your complaint, we’ll give you the details of an approved alternative dispute resolution (ADR) provider, an independent body that can help settle disagreements without going to court, and tell you whether we’ll use it. You can also get advice from Citizens Advice, and you can take a claim to court.

14. If you’re buying for a business

Reports are designed for consumers. Business use, including by motor traders, needs our written agreement.

If you buy for a business: the consumer rights in these terms don’t apply where the law allows; we aren’t responsible for loss of profit, revenue, business, goodwill or data, or for indirect or consequential loss; and our total responsibility is limited to the price you paid for the report concerned. This doesn’t limit our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

15. Other important terms

  • Changes to these terms. We may update these terms, for example to reflect new services or changes in the law. The terms that apply to a report are the ones shown when you bought it. We’ll tell account holders about important changes before they take effect.
  • Events outside our control. If something outside our control, such as a provider or network failure, delays or prevents a report, we’ll tell you, keep the delay as short as we can, and refund you if we can’t provide it.
  • Transfers. We may transfer this agreement to another business; we’ll tell you, and it won’t affect your rights. You need our agreement to transfer yours.
  • Other people. Nobody else has rights under these terms.
  • If part is invalid. If a court finds part of these terms invalid, the rest still applies.
  • Law and courts. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and you can bring claims in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring claims in your local courts.
