Questions about pricing and refunds

Is the free check enough?

It's a good start: MOT history, mileage, tax and recalls, straight from DVSA and DVLA. But it can't show finance, write-offs or theft, and those are the problems that can mean the car isn't the seller's to sell, or has been badly damaged.

What do I get for £9.99?

Outstanding finance, insurance write-offs, salvage auctions, theft, taxi or private hire use, and keepers, plate and colour changes, plus the MOT and mileage history, your AUTO373 score and 85+ data points. It opens as soon as you've paid, we email you a private link, and the report itself never expires.

What if the report doesn't help me?

You get a full report on another car for free. It's a launch offer: an extra from us, on top of your legal rights, because we're confident in our reports. Within 7 days of buying, or of running a report from a pack, use “Not helpful?” at the bottom of your report, no arguments. We just ask for a sentence on why, so we can make reports better. It's one free report per customer, checked by email and card. If we can't complete a report you get a full refund, and your legal rights if a report is ever faulty always apply.

Why do some checks cost less?

Some very cheap checks leave out the finance check, or only show MOT records you can see for free. Every AUTO373 full report includes finance, write-off and theft, the checks buyers most need.

Do I need a check if I'm buying from a dealer?

Yes. Most dealers are honest, but a check a seller shows you could be months old, a cheap one without finance, or a screenshot that's easy to edit, and "history checked" in an advert isn't proof. Your own report is independent and dated the day you run it. It also lists what to check at the viewing, like the VIN and logbook date, so you know the report and the paperwork match the car in front of you. Dealer stock finance is normal: just get the dealer to confirm in writing that it'll be paid off when you buy.

What if the report finds nothing wrong?

Good news: no finance, write-off or theft has been reported against the car. A clean result is a result, not missing data. It's different if we can't complete your report, for example if no record of the car is held or a check doesn't return a result: then you get a full refund, or the report run again once it's fixed.

Do I still need to see the car?

Yes. Your report covers the car's history: finance, write-offs, salvage auctions, theft, taxi use, keepers and plate changes, and every MOT. Seeing the car tells you how it drives today. Every report lists what to check at the viewing, like the VIN and logbook date, so you know the history belongs to the car in front of you. On a costly car, a mechanic's inspection is worth adding for its mechanical condition.

How does the 3-car pack work?

Buy it once, signed in to your free account, and 3 full reports go into your account. Each time you find a car worth checking, open its checkout and choose Use a pack report: no payment needed. Use them any time within 12 months; any you don't use can be refunded. “Not helpful?” covers pack reports too, within 7 days of running each one, once per customer.

Do I need an account, and is paying safe?

You don't need an account: buy with just your email and we send your report there. Afterwards you can keep all your reports in one place with a free account. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see your card details.
